“The Atomic Bomb will not be able to happen this year. ![]()
The forest fire that burned through the ski area last year after the A-Bomb burned the whole mountainside above and along the road. While the fire didn’t damage the road, the summer thunderstorms washed away huge amounts of the dirt alongside the road because there was no vegetation left to hold back or slow down the erosion. The water started undercutting the edge of the pavement as well and there is now a 3ft. wide and 3 ft. deep ditch next to the road that is only going to get worse with each Spring rain storm. Once the Thunderstorms start in late June it’s likely that even larger chunks of road will be washed away. The steps that the highway dept plans to take will not shore up the road enough to insure that it will be rideable this year at all. Maybe next year.
Please remove this planned event from the calendar, sorry to get everyone’s hopes up but this situation is beyond our control. We’ll keep an eye on the progress this summer keep you all posted. Best case would be that the entire road gets rebuilt and re-paved, then it’s ON!”
